Links
A link is a short URL on snip.link that forwards to a destination you can change at any time. Every link route takes the link's id or its ending (the part after snip.link/), so /v1/links/spring-menu and /v1/links/{id} are the same call.
- Endings are 3 to 40 letters, digits, dashes or underscores, case-insensitive and unique across Snip. Omit the ending for a random six-character code.
- Destinations are screened before they go live: http or https, a real host, not another link shortener, and not flagged by Google Web Risk. A refused destination is a 400 with a readable reason. Changed destinations are screened again, and every link is re-checked an hour and a day after a change.
- QR codes come with every link:
qr_png_urlandqr_svg_urlare free image URLs you can link, embed or download, no key needed. They encode the short link with a marker, so a scan is counted as a scan and a click as a click. Append&size=1024for print and&download=1for an attachment. - Switching off a link (
disabled: true) makes it answer 404 until you switch it back on; its history stays. Deleting removes the link and its clicks, and frees the ending. - Allowances. A plan holds so many links and makes so many a day (the table under Rate limits and plans). Past either, Create a link answers 429
quota_exceededwithdetails.reason(link_limitordaily_limit) anddetails.upgrade, the plan that lifts it.
QR codes for anything else
The QR code of a short link is free at its image URLs. For a code that holds something that is not a link (Wi-Fi credentials, a contact card, plain text) POST /v1/qr_code draws a static QR code as SVG, 1 credit per code. Credits are granted monthly by the plan and shared across every key; the free image URLs at /qr.png and /qr.svg draw any content as well, with the same colours and shapes, and need no key.
