Snip vs Bitly

More free than Bitly. By a lot.

Bitly's free plan stops at 5 links and 2 QR codes a month. Snip gives the useful parts away: links you can edit after printing, unlimited QR codes and the click stats.

Features

Everything a printed link needs.

A short link you can still change, a QR code that points at it, and the numbers on who used it. The parts that matter once the code is on paper.

Questions

Questions people ask first.

Short answers on price, accounts, assistants and what a click records.

Is Snip free?

Yes. Shorten up to 10 links a day on this page with no account, and make as many static QR codes as you like in the free QR code generator. A free account keeps up to 100 links and shows 30 days of click and scan stats. Pro ($12/month) is only for heavy use: 5,000 links and 365 days of stats.

Is Snip a free Bitly alternative?

Yes. Bitly's free plan allows 5 short links and 2 QR codes a month, keeps no click history and does not let you change where a link goes (Bitly pricing, October 2026). Snip lets you shorten 10 links a day with no account, keep 100 links in a free account, change where any of them points after printing, make unlimited QR codes that never expire, and see 30 days of click and scan stats.

What is a free link shortener with analytics?

A link shortener turns a long address into a short one that forwards to it; analytics count who follows it. Snip does both for free: each link counts clicks and QR scans separately, by day, country, referring site and device. A free account holds 100 links with 30 days of stats.

Do I need an account?

No. Shorten up to 10 links a day and download their QR codes without one, and the QR code generator never asks for one. Create a free account when you want to keep your links, change where they point, pick your own ending and see the stats. Links you made in the same browser in the last 30 days move into the new account.

Can I use Snip from ChatGPT or Claude?

Yes. Add the Snip connector (https://snip.link/mcp) and ask for a QR code or a short link in the chat. No sign-in is needed. Setup for each assistant is on the MCP server page.

Do my links stop working if I do not pay?

No. Links on the free plan keep redirecting. Pro adds more links and longer analytics.

Can I change where a link goes after I print the QR code?

Yes. Open the link in your dashboard, paste the new destination and save. The printed code goes to the new place from then on.

How are scans told apart from clicks?

The QR codes Snip draws carry a small marker on the short link, so a scan is counted as a scan and a typed or clicked link as a click.

What do you record about the people who click?

The time, the country, the site they came from and the kind of device. No IP addresses and no browser fingerprints.
