# Snip > Free short links and QR codes you can edit after printing, with click and scan analytics by day, country, referrer and device. Snip gives QR codes and short links away for free, on the web and inside AI assistants. Free is the product, not a trial. ## What is free - Static QR codes at https://snip.link/qr-code-generator: free and unlimited, no account. They never expire, because the content is stored in the pattern itself. Links, text, Wi-Fi, contact cards, email, SMS, phone numbers and locations; PNG and SVG; colours, rounded or square dots, and a centre logo. Drawn in the browser; nothing is uploaded. - Short links at https://snip.link/: 10 a day per visitor with no account, each with its QR code. Destinations are checked for abuse before they go live. - A free account keeps up to 100 links with custom endings (https://snip.link/your-ending), lets you change where a link points after printing, and shows 30 days of clicks and QR scans by day, country, referring site and device. Links on the free plan keep redirecting. - Pro ($12/month or $96/year) is only for heavy use: 5,000 links and 365 days of click and scan stats. ## Use it from an AI assistant (MCP) Connector URL: https://snip.link/mcp (Model Context Protocol, Streamable HTTP). No sign-in needed. To save links to a free Snip account from the assistant, use https://snip.link/mcp/account instead: the assistant asks the user to sign in once (OAuth), then shortened links land in their account and `get_link_stats` works. - Claude: Customize > Connectors > Add custom connector. Name it Snip, paste https://snip.link/mcp as the URL, and leave sign-in off. - ChatGPT: Turn on developer mode (Settings > Security and login > Developer mode), then add a connector with the URL https://snip.link/mcp and no authentication. - Cursor: Add to ~/.cursor/mcp.json: {"mcpServers":{"snip":{"url":"https://snip.link/mcp"}}} - Claude Code: Run: claude mcp add --transport http snip https://snip.link/mcp Tools: - `make_qr_code`: data (the text or URL), optional style (rounded or square), fg and bg (#rrggbb), ecc (L, M, Q or H). Returns PNG and SVG download URLs. - `shorten_link`: url. Returns the short link and its QR code URLs, plus a claim link to keep it in a free Snip account. - `get_link_stats`: clicks and scans for a link in your account. Needs the user signed in: the https://snip.link/mcp/account connector, or an API key (`Authorization: Bearer snip_live_...`). Without a key: 200 QR codes per network per day, 60 calls per minute, and short links share the website's 10 a day per visitor. Clients that send headers (Claude Code, Cursor, VS Code) can add a key from a free account (https://snip.link/app/keys); links they make are saved to that account. Setup page: https://snip.link/mcp-server. ## QR code image URLs Free, no key. Link or embed them directly: - PNG: https://snip.link/qr.png?data=&style=rounded|square&fg=rrggbb&bg=rrggbb&ecc=L|M|Q|H&size=<128 to 1024> - SVG: https://snip.link/qr.svg?data= with the same parameters - Example: https://snip.link/qr.png?data=https%3A%2F%2Fexample.com&size=512 - Only data is required, up to 1,500 characters. Defaults: rounded dots, fg 111111, bg ffffff, ecc M, size about 512 px (the PNG snaps to whole pixels per module). Colours are 6 hex digits, with or without the # (encoded as %23). Add download=1 to get the file as an attachment. ## Pages - https://snip.link/: shorten a link and download its QR code. - https://snip.link/qr-code-generator: the free static QR code generator. - https://snip.link/qr-code-generator/static-vs-dynamic: how static and dynamic QR codes differ and when each fits. - https://snip.link/qr-code-generator/faq: QR code questions. - https://snip.link/mcp-server: connect Snip to Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor or Claude Code. - https://snip.link/pricing: plans. - https://snip.link/docs: the REST API for developers. `POST https://snip.link/v1/qr_code` with an API key; spec at https://snip.link/openapi.json (OpenAPI 3.1). - https://snip.link/llms-full.txt: every guide and answer on this site in one plain-text file.
