Sharing files

Send a file, get a short link to it. The link opens a page that shows the file with a download button and its QR code; the link with the file's own extension is the file itself; any other ending converts it. Free; storage follows the plan.

curl -T menu.pdf https://snip.link

That is the whole call: no key, no form. The answer is the short link on one line. Add -H "Accept: application/json" for the full answer, and an API key to put the file in your account:

curl -T menu.pdf https://snip.link \
  -H "Authorization: Bearer $SNIP_KEY" \
  -H "Accept: application/json"

The REST route is POST /v1/drops with the file as the body and its name in ?name= (or an X-File-Name header); it takes ending, title and expires_at too. The answer is the link with file set: its name, type, size, SHA-256, its own URL, a download URL and every format it comes in.

The file at any ending

https://snip.link/k3Fd9a the file's page: preview, download, QR code
https://snip.link/k3Fd9a.pdf the file itself (its own extension), ?download to save it
https://snip.link/k3Fd9a.md a document's words as Markdown (PDF, Word, Excel ...)
https://snip.link/k3Fd9a.txt the words as plain text
https://snip.link/k3Fd9a.html Markdown or text as a clean page
https://snip.link/k3Fd9a.png a picture in another format (.jpg, .webp, .avif)
https://snip.link/k3Fd9a.json a sheet's rows (CSV, Excel), or the file's facts
https://snip.link/k3Fd9a.svg the link's QR code (.qr for PNG)
  • Conversions are made the first time someone asks and kept, so the second request is instant. A Word file becomes a PDF, a CSV becomes JSON, a HEIC photo a JPEG, Markdown a PDF.
  • An ending the file cannot become answers 404 with the formats that work.
  • Files open from snipcontent.com, a separate domain for shared content, through signed addresses; the short link and its endings are what you share.

Sizes, storage and what is refused

  • Without an account: files up to 50 MB, kept 30 days, with a claim link that moves them into a free account, which keeps them for good.
  • Free: files up to 100 MB and 5 GB kept. Pro: 100 GB.
  • Programs and installers are never accepted, whatever they are called. Zip files and other archives need an account.
  • Files do not count against your links; they count against storage. Deleting a link frees it.

From an assistant

The MCP server's drop_file tool takes a file name and its content (text) or content_base64, up to 10 MB, and answers with the link, the file's own URL and every format: an assistant can put anything it wrote on the web in one step.
